Andrew Barker is the principal and founder of AJ Barker Design. Andrew’s design work exemplifies his philosophy that the spaces that surround us should reflect and embody our personalities and individual style, while functioning as a machine for living.


Andrew graduated from the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration at UBC where he majored in Urban Land Economics and minored in Architectural History. Following a successful career in non-profit health-care and community development, Andrew combined his passion for design with his unique experience in building healthy communities and community-based research. The outcome was Andrew’s highly interactive design process that actively involves clients in exploring and creating the look and feel of their new space.

AJ Barker Design is a multi-disciplinary design consultancy offering a full complement of design services. We work on both residential and commercial projects and have completed numerous projects ranging from small condos to boutique offices, to large houses, with completed projects featured in design publications. Andrew is the principal designer and creative visionary, and works with a skilled team of contractors, trades, architectural consultants, graphic artists, concrete artists and millworkers to bring his designs to life.

Our goal is to to create spaces that embody your personality (or brand) and values whlle meeting your functional needs. Our design process is highly interactive, fun and can be a great learning experience for clients (some have likened it to “design therapy”).
